Glossary

Sometimes Maghanoys need special vocab to express themselves.  Here’s a guide for the rest of you! 

GAD – This stands for Grumpy Asian Dad.  It usually refers to my Dad.  In my experience, most Asian Dad’s are Grumpy, so maybe it stands for you Dad too. 

crapartment – A CRAPPY apartment.  I heard this on Grey’s Anatomy, two years after I started using it on my blog.  Coincidence? 

Arnold - This is my husband ‘s nickname.  Why?  Because I think it’s funny to call him Arnold.  What?  That’s not enough of an explanation?  OKay. Arnold is the anglicization of his middle name.  It is extra awesome to also use the anglicization of his second last name too because then you can call him “Arnold Runner”.  I know. Awesomecakes. 

Maghanoy - This is a synonym for awesome.  It’s also my original family name.  Maghanoys have very big ears and even bigger egos, we can’t help it, it’s in our genes. 

Wilipina- I get tired and cranky having to repeatedly explain that my Dad is Filipino and my Mom is white so I decided that I’m Wilipina.  Punto!  I wish I could take credit for this idea but I got it from my Korexican friend Angela.  Now I’m getting all my Wilipino friends to use it too, we’re making it a thing!  You know, like fetch?!
